Experienced games and media entrepreneur, Matthew Hannus had a vision for a first of its kind app that would change the way that fiction fans could digest content. Recognizing that changing attention spans have created a need for a new, more digestible platform for users to consume prose fiction, Hanus set out to build an app that delivers stories through bite-sized episodic content to users with new content available weekly.
Business Case
After designing a series of app screens that illustrated the overall product vision, Hanus partnered with the Sidebench team to pull together critical features to create a comprehensive product prototype with an intuitive workflow and requirements document to guide the development team. After taking a full inventory of all screens and content we worked on the story format navigation and simplified the overall concept.
Strategy
Sidebench held user interviews to better understand the needs of both content creators and content consumers and developed user personas to target 3 different reader groups: active-readers, dormant-readers, and BuzzFeed-readers - people who don’t identify as readers.
To tie together disparate feature sets into a logical flow, Sidebench identified gaps such as missing screens and interactive elements and then created workflow diagrams.
We considered transitions, animations, and navigation in order to provide interactive design throughout the app experience and compiled all completed mockups into a fully interactive prototype that felt as real as a native app.

Solution
Sidebench designed the technical architecture of the product and compiled all of our findings into a detailed product requirements document for the Bound development team. We stayed on as product owners throughout development and early stage releases. The product has since launched with new content delivered to users weekly.
