Visit Anaheim, is Orange County’s main destination marketing organization. Their mission is to develop, promote, market, and sell Anaheim and Orange County as a premier visitor destination. These efforts help in realizing the multi-billion-dollar per year tourism industry of Anaheim and Orange County.

Business Case

The Visit Anaheim team looked to create a modernized Concierge desk to highlight the various hotels, attractions, food and beverage, and entertainment options Anaheim has to offer. In order to create an interactive and refreshing digital experience, they decided to build a concierge booth consisting of a large interactive monitor, a station with multiple iPads, and two interactive kiosks.
Catasys tasked Sidebench with creating a design concept to be used internally to facilitate discussions around business strategy, product direction, and operational complexities as the organization expand towards a digital transformation.

Challenge

Our primary challenge was to design for a large, expensive device which we didn’t have access to in the house. This created an emphasis on following best practices and standards thoroughly and focusing on design requirements to build a responsive interface that would work with a little adjustment on both vertical and horizontal orientations along with small and large devices.

Supporting accessibility was also a factor we strongly wanted to encourage. The screens and experiences needed to be accessed by everyone who visited the convention center and would be equally as important to those in wheelchairs. This was factored into the design of the interactive kiosk but also within the system's design.

Solution

  • You can find our digital solution in action at the Anaheim Convention center, now. With three separate experiences - Play, Dine, and Shop - visitors are empowered to explore all of Anaheim's attractions from the interactive kiosk.
  • The kiosks functions as a form of information transfer and a booking system from the kiosk to the user’s phone including making reservations at local restaurants to buying tickets to a baseball or hockey game.
  • Users can begin a transaction on the touchscreen and then receive a link via text or email to complete on their own device.
